We're told over and again that the world is getting worse. That there is more to fear and resist than ever. But it's not true. And not in some naive, pollyanna way either: The world is in so many ways better than ever. It's the story we're being told that needs help.
The Porch is both a community and a magazine, giving birth to each other in hopes to put a better story on display, one cable news and the social media grind have stopped hearing. The Porch is a slow conversation about beautiful and difficult things, a contribution to the better narrative we all need and deserve. The first issue will be a manifesto rooted in Thomas Moore's phrase, a re-enchantment of everyday life. I can't imagine a better opening theme.
If you like to celebrate life in a way that doesn't ignore what's hard, like art and long from journalism, then follow The Porch Magazine on Facebook and consider subscribing to the first few issues.
